Workshop "Inverse problems and numerical methods in applications"

Institut für Werkstofftechnik, IWT, Bremen, 8. + 9. March 2012

The talk schedule:

At the heart of many modern industrial and medical applications is fast and accurate numerical solution of inverse problems. For example, inverse scattering techniques are used in applications ranging from the small-scale optical characterisation of micro- and nanostructures to large-scale radar imaging. Similar techniques are used in medical imaging technologies such as ultrasound imaging, Electrical Impedance Tomography and in several other imaging technologies.

A common challenge for inverse problems in applications is the need for a thorough theoretical understanding of the problem and the difficulties, as well as fast and reliable numerical algorithms for inversion. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on different aspects of inverse problems from theory to computations and real-life applications, and through presentations and discussions create an inspiring atmosphere for mutual benefits.

Topics

• Inverse scattering: analysis and numerical methods

• Inverse problems in medical imaging: analysis and numerical methods

• Real-life applications of inversion methods

• Regularisation methods
