BREMEN
(Please have a look at the map of the campus plan at the end of this
page.
) An extensive overview about Bremen can be found here: http://www.bremen-tourism.de/ TRAVEL / COMING TO BREMEN - Airplane Information about Bremen airport is available here https://www.bremen-airport.com/ Note: On 1st of April 2007 Ryan air started operation from and to Bremen Airport. Therefore relatively cheap flights are available. Starting from June 2007 Bremen is connected via Ryan air to the following airports: London (Stansted), Dublin, Oslo (Torp), Stockholm (Skavsta), Tampere, Riga, Paris (Beauvais), Bratislava, Verona, Venice (Treviso), Milan (Orio al Serio), Pisa, Alghero (Sardinia), Trapani (Sicily), Malta, Girona (Barcelona), Murcia, Malaga For more information see Ryan air Homepage The airport has a direct connection with the city center via tram line '6'. For more information see topic 'Public Transport in Bremen'. - Train / timetables The 'Deutsche Bahn' provides an online timetable: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?ld=212.27&newrequest=yes& - Car / routeplan planing A route planing tool / citymap can be found here: http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm http://www.mapquest.de/mq/home.do - Public transport in Bremen Information about public transport and timetables are available here: http://www.bsag.de/eng/index.php The workshop can be reached easily by tram line '6'. REACHING THE WORKSHOP
Please have a look at the map of campus at the end of this page. The conference takes place at the Institut für Werkstofftechnik / IWT. By tram First you should reach for Bremen Central Railway / Tram / Bus Station. >From central tram station take tram line 6. The ride takes approx. 15 Minutes. Note: Tram 6 goes into two directions. Make sure that you reach for 'Universität' - it starts from railtrack E = Gleis E. Leave the tram at tram stop 'Universität / Zentralbereich'. The stops are announced in the trams. Hint: The stop comes after a 90 degree right turn and is next to a huge building with glass walls. When leaving the tram you stand in front of the huge building with glass walls. Turn left and walk along this building, parallel to the tram tracks (following the tram you just left). Walk 50m until you meet a little statue. Turn right and follow the path between two elongated buildings made from dark red bricks and which are connected by several glass bridges. After the second bridge you will reach the main entrance of the IWT - pass it until you reach the third bridge. Enter the door on the right handside under the bridge. By car Reach for the Highway / Autobahn A27. >From the interchange Bremer Kreuz drive into direction of Bremerhaven. Leave the highway at exit Horn-Lehe / Universität. This is a 'double' exit, when it splits follow the exit 'Universität'. It will bring you to the crossing 'Autobahnzubringer Universität' / 'Hochschulring'. Turn right and follow the 'Hochschulring'. When you reach the (143m high) 'Fallturm' (Freefall-Tower) turn left (leaving the tower behind you). On the right handside you will find a parking lot. The fee for parking there is 0.60 EURO / day. Leave the lot by walking between the two buildings and you will reach the main entrance of the IWT. Turn left and under the first bridge enter the door on the right. ACCOMODATION / HOTELS If you plan to arrive by plane or train we suggest to take a hotel in the area around central railway station. This area is easy to reach from the airport: the tram line '6' will bring you directly there (15 minutes). You will also have no difficulties to reach the workshop: the tram line '6' will bring you directly to the venue (15 minutes). Another advantage: the centre of Bremen with its tourist features is within walking distance. It takes you not more than 5-10 minutes to reach most of the places of interest. You will find different types of hotels there with a broad bandwidth of prices: Intercity Hotel http://www.bremen.intercityhotel.de/aw/Hotels/InterCityHotel_Bremen/~nkn/Englisch/ IBIS Hotel 'Centrum' http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/0738/fiche_hotel.shtml IBIS Hotel 'Altstadt' (another IBIS, not so close to central station) http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/1442/fiche_hotel.shtml Mercure Columbus http://www.mercure.com/mercure/fichehotel/gb/mer/0879/fiche_hotel.shtml Best Western Hotel 'Schaper-Siedenburg' http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=95318&disablenav=true&language=en_US&suppressSSLPopup=true&sob=A03&notAffiliate=true&showPropertyLink=true#null Best Western Hotel 'Zur Post' http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=95025&disablenav=true&language=en_US&suppressSSLPopup=true&sob=A03&notAffiliate=true&showPropertyLink=true#null Hotel Buthmann http://www.hotel-buthmann.de/preise.html If you plan to travel by car and prefer a hotel closer to the venue: Hotel Horner Eiche / Deutsche Eiche http://www.hotel-horner-eiche.de/HornerEiche/EN/index.htm http://www.hotel-horner-eiche.de/DeutscheEiche/EN/index.htm Hotel Munte http://www.hotel-munte.de/ Atlantic Hotel Universum http://www.atlantic-hotels.de/universum/hotel-english/flash6.htm For those who will use car and are looking for a (very) inexpensive, (simple) hotel (a little bit further away and only recommendable for people with car): ETAP Hotel Bremer Kreuz http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/fichehotel/gb/etp/5610/fiche_hotel.shtml If you would like to stay in a youth hostel: http://www.jugendherberge.de/de/jugendherbergen/visitenkarte/jh.jsp?IDJH=578 VISA REGULATIONS For any questions related to entry requirements and visa please have a look at the web pages of the German Foreign Office ( Auswärtiges Amt ) http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/Startseite.html The entry requirements and visa request forms are accessible at http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/WillkommeninD/EinreiseUndAufenthalt/uebersicht.html A list of the German Embassies ist accesible via http://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/diplo/en/Laenderinformationen/DtAuslandsvertretungenUmleitung.html
